5 Key Benefits To Raw Pet Food

Greetings!

Many of you have been asking some great questions about raw pet food. One thing that’s quite hilarious for some customers is that we have a “shop dog”. She’s all of about 30lbs sopping wet. She’s a total lamb and lounges either in the middle of the floor sunbathing as you walk in so you have to step over her or sitting in her “Wayside Greeter” position, sitting very regally at the front of the store waiting for pets. We’ve always fed our pups raw meat, always. Dating all the way back to our first shop pup. We’re not surprised it’s become more mainstream because our doggies love it. Today, we’re going to take a look at 5 benefits of switching your beloved fur-baby to raw pet food and some of our options that we offer

  1. Improved Dental Health:

Raw dog food over time reduces the amount of plaque and tartar build up on dog teeth. Dog’s naturally have a higher acidic environment but with other kibbles and dried food they tend to be higher in starch and sugars which overtime can break down the enamel of their teeth (kind of like humans). Because raw meat is low in these starches and sugar it promotes more of a healthy mouth by allowing the natural flora of the bacteria to thrive and to do its best.

2. Improved Digestion:

The concept is the same with dental hygiene. Most kibbles and other wet dog foods have a lot of fillers and ingredients that aren’t sourced well. Digestion is aided with a naturally acidic environment so if a pup is consuming a kibble that’s higher in sugars and starches, like any other animal, the digestive environment will become more challenged causing all sorts of digestive issues and challenges over time. With a more seamless digestion takes less time, there’s less gas and discomfort as well as more solid health stools. One study found that giving puppies raw food instead of kibble reduced their chances for IBS later in the future.

3. Improved Skin & Coat:

Most dry skin in pups is due to a healthy fat deficiency and one great thing about raw meat is that it’s dense with fatty acids, proteins and lipids (nutrients). Dogs (just like humans) require a significant amount of amino acids and enzymes, as well as proper hydrations, to keep their follicles in place and feeling shiny and silky. Most often raw meat can support this, even adding eggs and yolks to meat can add an additional flavor and creaminess for them to thrive. Meat retains a significant amount of water so naturally it’ll keep your furry bestie satiated and hydrated.

4. Improved Bone & Joint Health:

There’s no better way than to improve bone health and joint health than with eating bone marrow, broth, and bones! Marrow bones have a ton of glycogen and collagen which promotes not only bone and joint health but also digestion and hair/skin. There’s a host of really fantastic micro nutrients as well.

5. Overall Flavor:

We’ve had our fair share of picky puppy eaters and raw meat ALWAYS does the trick. I’m convinced it’s because their ancestors ate meat but it works every time. Dogs love raw meat. Meat is extremely satiating for pups and again you can add any toppers or other add ons to make it seem less cave-man and more wolf, if you know what I mean.

Overall, feeding your furry friends a raw food diet is simply like feeding your family. Utilize the cleanest and most fresh sources of produce and the flavor will create itself. There’s a lot of research to suggest that bacteria might live in raw meat and all of this. I encourage you to simply utilize common sense, instead of using just raw meat if you cook ground beef or perhaps slow roast/braise beef shins the meat will fall right apart. IT’s a meal that good enough for you AND your furry best friend. When handling meat always ensure you’re not cross contaminating and all will be well. We still eat chop meat fresh out of our grinder-we know the source.

Our options?

We suggest different custom ground blends. Some of these depend upon availability others depend upon sourcing and ratios.

Any offal (kidneys, intestines, liver, lungs, etc.) will be GREAT for not only you but your furry friend. We grind those in with either beef, turkey, chicken, lamb, or duck. Certain combinations are limited to pre-order so please, we highly encourage pre-ordering to ensure ordering availability.

We ALWAYS freshly grind everything to order so we are grinding your meat fresh upon pick-up.

Shoot us a DM for any questions. We love this stuff.
